Guest Lecture and a
Discussion on ‘Musicology and Organology: Current Issues of Research Methods”
With accordance to the 2018 year plan of the Department of
Musicology, the first of a series of lectures, seminars and workshops was held
on the 26th of February 2018 at the Dr. Ranjan Abeysinghe Gamut from 9.00 am
onwards till 4.00 pm. With the invitation extended by the Head of the
Department, Senior Lecturer Iranga Samindani Weerakkody, Prof. Dr. Gisa
Jähnichen of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music arrived as the guest lecturer
for this informative event.
Prof. Dr. Gisa Jähnichen, who has previous experience with
the University of Vienna and the University of Humboldt, conducted the workshop
on the topic, “Musicology and Organology, Current Issues of Research Methods”.
It was a very worthwhile experience for the students as well as the lecturers
of the Department of Musicology to have attended and associated with a person
of such gravity as Prof. Dr. Gisa Jähnichen.
The event was highlighted with many aspects such as the
importance of Musicologists to society, the challenges faced by Musicologists
in the growing world, and modern research analysis methods. Below are a few
